Why an Extended Auckland Family Photography Session is Worth It
There is something incredibly special about having the whole family together. Grandparents, parents, children and cousins all in one place is a rare occasion, making it the perfect time to invest in professional photographs you'll treasure for generations.
As an Auckland family photographer, I love capturing the connections between every generation. Extended family photography sessions are the best - they're about documenting your family's generational story and each special connection. One of the often-overlooked benefits of an extended family photography session is that there's always an extra pair of hands to help! Whether it's a grandparent pulling funny faces behind the camera, an aunty making little ones giggle, or an uncle catching a toddler's attention, having more familiar faces around often leads to genuine smiles, natural laughter, and beautifully authentic photographs.
During your session, I'll capture:
The entire extended family together
Individual family units
Grandparents with grandchildren
Siblings and cousins
Solo portraits
One of the best parts of an extended family session is choosing a location that suits your family. As an Auckland family photographer, I regularly photograph families in some of Auckland's most beautiful outdoor settings. Whether it's the wide open spaces of Cornwall Park, the beautiful beaches of St Heliers, the rolling countryside around Whitford, or a local favourite spot in Howick, each location offers stunning natural backdrops and plenty of room for children to explore. Paired with golden hour (60 minutes before sunrise / sunset) is the * chefs kiss * time of the day for stunning light. If you’re wanting to hear more about my favourite locations, check out my East Auckland Photography Location Guide for 2026. And as always - if you have a dream outdoor spot in mind, let me know! I always love a new adventure.
